UT engineering wing pushes for official land demarcation to clear Khuda Lahora flyover path

Chandigarh, May 29: The engineering department of the Chandigarh administration has formally requested the Deputy Commissioner office to initiate a comprehensive land demarcation along the Madhya Marg stretch. Officials asserted that accurate mapping by the estate office remains essential to firmly establish project boundaries and identify any potential structural encroachments prior to breaking ground.

The planned infrastructure initiative involves the construction of a 1.1-kilometer flyover at the densely populated Khuda Lahora bottleneck, carrying a tentative structural budget of Rs 85 crore. Administrative sources maintained that because the financial scope falls within local monetary powers, the project can proceed independently without awaiting central government approval. A privately hired technical consultant completed the initial geographical surveys and is scheduled to submit the final detailed project report next month.

Madhya Marg serves as a critical regional transit link connecting Chandigarh with heavy traffic corridors heading toward New Chandigarh, Mullanpur, Kurali, and parts of Himachal Pradesh. Local administrative authorities previously attempted minor interventions, including the installation of specialized traffic signals and local junction redesigning, but high transit volume continued to cause major peak-hour delays. Chief Engineer C.B. Ojha affirmed that while the main roadway operates directly under the engineering wing’s jurisdiction, formal administrative demarcation is crucial to prevent any boundary disputes during active construction.
