LUCKNOW, JUNE 2 — The Uttar Pradesh government has released several crores of rupees to renovate, strengthen, and modernize museums across the state as part of an ongoing initiative to preserve its cultural, historical, and literary heritage.

The initial installments will fund key curation and development projects across Varanasi, Firozabad, Deoria, Lucknow, Jhansi, and Kushinagar under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“The government’s priority is not only to create development projects but also to preserve Uttar Pradesh’s glorious heritage and present it to future generations in a modern form,” Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh declared while announcing the allocations.

The Minister affirmed that clear instructions have been issued to all executing agencies to ensure top quality and timely completion. He maintained that strict action will be taken against any agency found using substandard materials or showing negligence in project execution.

Among the key allocations, the state has granted ₹2.60 crore for interior decoration and curation at the Munshi Premchand Memorial Museum and Library in Lamhi, Varanasi. Another ₹4.40 crore has been directed to the Glass Museum in Firozabad, while a substantial ₹30 crore is designated for developing the Shaheed Late Ramchandra Vidyarthi Memorial Site in Deoria.

The state capital is set to receive a major share of the infrastructure boost. The State Museum in Lucknow has been allotted ₹1.98 crore for its Children’s Gallery and landscaping, ₹4.59 crore for a new cafeteria and library extension, and ₹4.60 crore for the current financial year to upgrade its basement storage systems. Additionally, ₹1.74 crore will fund campus utilities like rainwater harvesting, while ₹1.59 crore is earmarked for relocating sculptures within the facility, a project that officials asserted is already 95 percent complete.

Regional tourism centers are also part of the modernization push. The government has allocated ₹3 crore for the Government Museum in Jhansi and ₹15 crore for the beautification of the Government Buddhist Museum in Kushinagar, a move aimed at providing a significant boost to Buddhist and heritage tourism.
