AMRITSAR, JUNE 4 — Security agencies placed Punjab on maximum alert after five prominent Hindu temples received bomb threat emails just days before the 42nd anniversary of Operation Bluestar.

The electronic threats targeted major religious sites across the state, including the Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, Mukteshwar Dham Temple in Pathankot, and Devi Talab Mandir in Jalandhar. Officials noted that threats were also delivered to the Maisar Khana Temple in Bathinda and the Mata Kali Temple in Patiala. While local administrators indicated the messages resemble previous mass hoaxes sent to educational and judicial institutions, the state is treating the matter with strict seriousness.

“Security agencies are not taking any chances. Comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place and all threat inputs are being thoroughly investigated,” Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated.

The state has fortified regional security by deploying 11 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, which include personnel from the Border Security Force, the Rapid Action Force, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. This deployment follows a comprehensive security review led by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav and Special DGP for Law and Order P.K. Sinha across critical border districts.

Special DGP Sinha affirmed that law enforcement remains fully prepared to handle any attempts by cross-border actors or anti-national elements to disrupt regional stability during this sensitive period.

“All necessary preventive and security measures have been implemented to ensure peaceful observance of the anniversary and maintain public safety,” Sinha declared.

In a connected investigation, Amritsar City Police recently apprehended a Bangladeshi national in West Bengal for allegedly distributing fraudulent email profiles. Investigators suspect these specific accounts were utilized by operators based in Pakistan and Bangladesh to issue threats. Punjab Police officials confirmed they have contacted Interpol to help identify the foreign-based individuals responsible for manufacturing public panic.
