MOHALI, June 9 — Sarabjit Singh Samana, son of local legislator Kulwant Singh, was elected on Tuesday as the new Mayor of the Mohali Municipal Corporation, successfully concluding the civic body’s leadership selection process. The newly formed municipal executive team also includes RP Sharma, who has been appointed Senior Deputy Mayor, and Harpal Singh Channa, who has assumed the responsibilities of Deputy Mayor.
The local government department convened a special meeting at the civic corporation office to finalize the voting and appointment formalities. The session witnessed full attendance from the elected municipal councilors, alongside the presence of Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who attended the proceedings to oversee the transition of the civic administration.
The newly elected leadership immediately assumed their official portfolios at the municipal headquarters following the announcement. Commenting on the administrative transition, a senior official present at the corporation office stated:
“The process for the election of the new Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation has been completed today. Meanwhile, Sarabjit Singh Samana, son of MLA Kulwant Singh, has been elected as the new Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation.”
Administrative staff limited access to the main assembly floor during the voting, restricting media personnel to the outer press galleries until the official oaths were administered. Following the formal induction, Minister Aman Arora and the present councilors extended their congratulations to the new office bearers, stating that the clear mandate would help accelerate long-pending civic development projects across the urban sectors.
The new municipal team noted that their immediate priorities include upgrading urban infrastructure, streamlining local public services, and ensuring systematic waste management across the city. Corporate observers stated that the consensus election is expected to provide greater administrative stability and improved coordination between the local civic body and the state government.
