Chandigarh, July 16: The International English Language Testing System is set to complete a total transition from paper-based assessments to a computer-delivered format in India starting this September. IDP Education, which co-owns the testing system, declared that this shift is intended to provide candidates with increased flexibility, expedited result delivery, and a more convenient testing experience. This change aligns with the organization’s broader efforts to modernize the assessment journey while maintaining the integrity and trust associated with the global examination.
As part of this transition, the traditional paper-based format will remain available until the conclusion of August. Candidates who prefer to take the paper-based examination are encouraged to register for the final three available test dates, which have been scheduled for July 25, August 6, and August 22. After this period, the examination will be exclusively administered through digital platforms.
The organization asserted that the computer-based format maintains the identical question pattern, level of difficulty, and scoring criteria as the paper version. IDP stated that the digital interface is designed to support the student journey by offering features such as an on-screen timer and easier navigation across questions. Furthermore, test takers will benefit from clear audio delivered through headphones during the listening portion of the exam.
Beginning in September, candidates will have two primary options for their testing experience. They may choose to complete the listening, reading, and writing sections entirely on a computer. Alternatively, the format allows candidates to perform the listening and reading sections on a computer while continuing to complete the writing section on paper. The speaking test, however, will remain unchanged, continuing to be conducted face-to-face with a certified examiner.
