Chandigarh, July 27: Technical operations across the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited return to normal routine after employee representatives accepted time-bound commitments from the state government regarding long-standing pay structures and concessions.
The week-long work stoppage, which tested power distribution networks during peak demand, ended in the early hours of Monday following extended deliberations between state authorities and union representatives.
“The government confirmed that the committee reviewing our financial requirements will deliver an interim document by July 31 and present a complete report by August 15,” stated a Joint Coordination Committee representative.
Management also agreed to extend electricity concessions to personnel recruited after 2011, resolving a multi-year grievance regarding benefit distribution across different hiring batches.
Prior to the agreement, the absence of linemen and technical staff led to delays in addressing localized outages, prompting field engineers and administrative staff to manage emergency maintenance under elevated pressure.
“Equal work demands equal pay across all employment categories,” maintained union leaders, pointing to salary disparities among employees performing identical technical duties as a primary driver behind the movement.
The administration agreed to hold back the enforcement of ‘no work, no pay’ measures, while employee associations noted they will observe the upcoming panel deadlines closely.
