Active Missile Part Found in Adampur

Adampur, May 12: Two days after missile attacks from Pakistan had largely ceased, a partially burnt missile part was discovered inside the generator room of Markfed canneries at Chuharwali village near Adampur, raising fresh security concerns around the sensitive air base.

The missile fragment had reportedly pierced through the generator shed’s structure and ignited iron meshes inside, though significant damage was avoided.

Officials believe the missile was likely intercepted mid-air before falling onto the facility.

The unexploded fragment was first noticed by Markfed employees Pawan Kumar and Charanjit, who immediately alerted the factory manager, Jagdeep Singh.

Following the report, local police led by DSP Kulwant Singh, SHO Hardevpreet Singh, and ASI Daya Chand arrived at the site.

They contacted the Army and Air Force units, who dispatched bomb disposal experts. Investigations confirmed that the missile part still contained active explosive components.

“The missile part was found to be active and potentially dangerous. The Markfed staff followed proper safety protocol and stayed away from the object, which could have caused harm if mishandled,” said DSP Kulwant Singh.

The disposal team later moved the missile fragment to nearby fields, where it was safely defused.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious debris to the police rather than approach it.

The discovery adds to a growing list of missile remnants found in the district following the recent escalation.

On Saturday alone, debris was located in at least a dozen sites including Sarmastpur, Kangniwal, Isharwal, and Dhogri—villages all located near the Adampur Air Force base.

Security forces remain on alert across Punjab as recovery operations continue.
