Chandigarh, 22 December 2024: After a decade-long absence, Chandigarh will make a comeback at the Republic Day parade in Delhi with a vibrant tableau celebrating the city’s unique blend of heritage and modernity. The Centre recently approved proposals from 15 states and Union Territories, including Chandigarh, for the 2025 parade at Kartavya Path.

The city’s last tableau, showcased in 2014, highlighted Chandigarh’s renowned architectural heritage, featuring iconic designs by Le Corbusier. This time, the tableau reflects a more contemporary narrative while paying homage to the city’s cultural and natural attractions.

At the forefront of the display will be a sculpture of a man capturing videography at the Japanese Garden, symbolizing the city’s emergence as a preferred destination for filmmakers. Its lush greenery, serene environment, and striking architecture have made Chandigarh a magnet for the film industry.

The tableau also highlights the Rock Garden, created by Nek Chand, alongside a mosaic mural design inspired by the outer walls of the Vidhan Sabha. The back panels will feature floating solar panels at Dhanas Lake, India’s largest solar lake, showcasing the city’s sustainable initiatives.

Further elements include a depiction of Chandigarh’s lush green parks, where yoga practitioners, senior citizens, and tourists gather. Gandhi Bhavan, designed by Pierre Jeanneret, is also featured as a tribute to the city’s architectural legacy. Other attractions include the Rooster Bird Fountain at City Plaza and the expansive public cycle track network, which spans nearly 300 km, the largest of its kind in India.

Designed by a team of experts, including professors from the Government College of Art and Jamia Millia Islamia University, the tableau reflects Chandigarh’s innovative spirit. “It captures the essence of the city with an unprecedented and bold presentation of symbolic elements that define Chandigarh’s identity and appeal,” the designers said.

This refreshed presentation combines traditional heritage with contemporary advancements, offering a unique perspective on Chandigarh’s evolution as a global tourist and cultural hub.
