Moga, June 30: The Punjab Government will lay an additional 7,000 kilometres of agricultural pipelines by the end of this year to provide reliable canal water to every farm in the state. Speaking at a Lok Milni programme in Bhallur, Moga, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that the initiative aims to build on the 14,000 kilometres of watercourses already established over the past four years.
The massive infrastructure expansion is part of a broader strategy to support local farmers and restore natural resources. The Chief Minister stated that water recharge points are being integrated within the canals and rivers to systematically elevate the groundwater table.
“The Punjab Government has laid 14,000 kilometres of pipes and watercourses across the state to facilitate the farmers of Punjab in every nook and corner,” Chief Minister Mann asserted during his address. “So far, 21,000 cusecs of water has been released in these pipelines and watercourses to benefit the farmers in a big way by catering to their irrigation needs. Recharge points have been kept in the canals and rivers so that the water level is enhanced, and the water level has increased by two to four metres.”
The administration has already managed to connect nearly 80 percent of the state’s agricultural land to the canal water network. According to the Chief Minister, previous governing regimes had long ignored the critical irrigation needs of the farming community, leaving the system underutilized.
Beyond rural development, the state is preparing to roll out broader social welfare and infrastructure updates, including the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna on July 1 to provide direct financial assistance to women. National assessments have also recognized the state’s recent progress, with NITI Aayog data showing Punjab leading in primary and middle-school education metrics.
Addressing the political landscape, the Chief Minister affirmed that traditional opposition parties have united against the current administration due to their inability to match these development milestones. He added that the public remains supportive of the government’s transparent governance model, which utilizes the state exchequer directly for public services, healthcare, and rural transformation.
