Gurugram, April 21: For the first time in nearly ten years, the Haryana government will convene its Cabinet meeting outside the state capital, with the session scheduled for April 22 in Gurugram. The meeting, set to begin at 9 am at the PWD rest house, is viewed as a strategic acknowledgement of Gurugram’s role as the state’s primary economic engine.
The agenda reportedly includes a dozen key proposals, but significant attention remains on a deferred item regarding the waiver of government rent for former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. While the proposal aims to clear estimated dues of ₹16.5 lakh, it previously faced resistance from ministers who demanded a thorough audit of maintenance and utility expenditures before proceeding.
“Bringing the cabinet to Gurugram is being interpreted as an attempt to directly address the concerns of the state’s key economic hub,” officials stated. They noted that the city’s contribution to state revenue makes it a critical location for high-level policy discussions.
In addition to the rent issue, the Cabinet is expected to conduct a comprehensive review of infrastructure projects within the National Capital Region. The session comes at a sensitive time, following recent industrial tensions in Manesar and ongoing debates regarding urban governance and wage policies. Security has been heightened across the city, with the Chief Minister and senior cabinet members like Anil Vij and Rao Narbir Singh expected to attend.
