CHANDIGARH, June 1 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared the Aam Aadmi Party’s sweeping performance in the municipal body elections a clear public endorsement of the state government’s welfare-driven administration.

Speaking at a press conference following the announcement of results, Mann stated that voters have roundly rejected the negative and divisive agendas of traditional opposition parties. He maintained that the electorate instead chose to reward tangible governance milestones, including universal free electricity, upgraded public schools, accessible healthcare, and expanded job creation.

“The people of Punjab have shown the door to communal forces and have delivered a resounding verdict in favor of secularism and the Aam Aadmi Party,” Mann asserted. He noted that the high voter turnout despite intense summer heat demonstrated a widespread commitment to safeguarding democratic principles.

Electoral data revealed significant ruling party majorities across traditional opposition strongholds. In the Dhuri assembly constituency, the ruling party captured 19 out of 21 municipal seats. Similar margins were recorded in Gidderbaha, the home base of the state’s Congress president, where the party took 17 out of 19 seats, and in Barnala, home turf of the BJP state chief, where AAP claimed 37 out of 50 seats.

The Chief Minister noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party finished a distant fifth place overall, with independent candidates outperforming them in numerous localities. Mann stated that the BJP lost its security deposit in more than 1,000 seats across the state, illustrating a sharp decline even within its conventional urban voter bases.

Mann affirmed that the decisive local mandate establishes a powerful foundation for the upcoming 2027 state elections, suggesting the party is on course to break its own 2022 assembly record. He gave a firm assurance that municipal development funds would be distributed equitably across all cities, towns, and villages without political discrimination.
