CHANDIGARH, MAY 29 — An alumna of the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls in SAS Nagar has been commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in the Indian Navy, marking another milestone for the state-run training facility.
The newly commissioned officer, Nisha, successfully graduated from the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala. She attended an impressive passing out parade that was reviewed by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command. Nisha has joined the Education Branch of the maritime force. She is the daughter of Dinesh Chander, who serves as a Senior Assistant at Punjabi University, Patiala.
Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora congratulated Sub Lieutenant Nisha on her accomplishment, stating that her path would serve as an inspiration for other young women across the state looking to join the armed forces. The minister noted the government’s ongoing focus on providing infrastructure and training resources for female defence aspirants under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
“The achievements of our cadets reflect the immense potential of Punjab’s daughters when given the right platform,” Mr. Arora stated. “The state remains dedicated to expanding these specialized training pipelines so more young women can successfully transition into the officer cadres of our national defence structure.”
The state administration has consistently expanded its military preparatory infrastructure in recent years. To broaden these opportunities, the Punjab government operationalized a dedicated National Defence Academy Preparatory Wing for Girls at the SAS Nagar institute in July 2023, where a third consecutive batch of trainees is currently undergoing preparation.
The leadership at the institute expressed confidence that the latest commission would boost ongoing enrollment and training programs. “This graduation brings immense pride to our institution and directly strengthens our mission,” Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu (Retd), Director of Mai Bhago AFPI, asserted. “We extend our finest wishes to the officer as she begins her service career, and we believe her success will further energize our collective efforts to guide more female candidates into uniform.”
