WASHINGTON, APRIL 27 — President Donald Trump and several high-ranking administration officials were evacuated from the Washington Hilton on Saturday night after a gunman opened fire near the entrance to the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Law enforcement officials stated that the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, was apprehended at the scene after attempting to force entry into the hotel ballroom.

The incident occurred as hundreds of journalists, politicians, and celebrities gathered for the glitzy media event. Witnesses stated that the hall fell into chaos as Secret Service agents swarmed the stage to move the president and first lady to safety, while attendees were instructed to take cover under tables. The Metropolitan Police Department affirmed that one officer was struck by a round during the confrontation but remained uninjured because of a bulletproof vest.

President Trump later affirmed that he initially believed the sound of the shots was coming from a distance. “The vest did the job,” he stated during a subsequent press briefing, where he praised the rapid response of his security detail. He also declared that the suspect, whom he described as looking “pretty evil,” was armed with multiple weapons and knives.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that federal charges are expected to be filed shortly as the investigation continues. FBI Director Kash Patel affirmed that agents are currently analyzing recovered weapons and investigating a possible manifesto sent by the suspect to family members.

Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, stated that the dinner would be rescheduled within 30 days. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries affirmed that the violence and chaos in the country must end, while House Speaker Mike Johnson stated his gratitude for the law enforcement officers who brought the situation under control.
