PRTC Staff to Halt Buses for Two Hours Over Salary Dispute

Chandigarh, April 23 — Commuters in Punjab may face disruptions as employees of the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) plan a two-hour bus blockade on Wednesday in protest over unpaid salaries.

The protest is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, during which PRTC services will be suspended. According to union leaders, the state government has credited only half of the employees’ salaries, prompting the protest action.

“If full salaries are not released by 12 noon, a larger agitation will begin, and bus operations will be completely suspended from April 25,” said Resham Singh, Punjab President of PRTC’s Punbus unit, while speaking to PTC News.

Singh noted that Wednesday’s blockade will affect only PRTC buses, but Punbus employees are expected to join the protest if the salary issue remains unresolved.

The partial suspension is expected to cause inconvenience to daily passengers, especially those reliant on government-run buses for intercity travel.

Officials have yet to respond publicly to the demands or confirm any timeline for the release of remaining salaries.
