Puducherry, April 20: Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan joined the Sikh Sangat at Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji on Sunday to commemorate Khalsa Sajna Divas and Vaisakhi. The gathering brought together devotees from Puducherry, Chennai, and surrounding areas to celebrate the historical and spiritual significance of the occasion.
Khalsa Sajna Diwas (also celebrated as Baisakhi) is a highly sacred Sikh festival commemorating the establishment of the Khalsa Panth by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh,at Anandpur Sahib on 13/14 April 1699. The day is celebrated as a symbol of courage against tyranny, defense of religion, and equality.
Addressing the devotees, the Lieutenant Governor stated that the Sikh community has played a pivotal role in the progress and development of India. He declared that their history is defined by a remarkable legacy of sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that the core principles of Seva and Langar serve as powerful examples of social equality and selfless service. In a gesture of humility, he sat with the congregation to partake in the traditional community meal, reinforcing the egalitarian values central to the faith.
During the event, the Gurudwara management honored the Lieutenant Governor with a Siropao and presented him with a Tamil translation of the Japji Sahib, alongside a model of Sri Darbar Sahib. Harsaran Singh, General Secretary of the Pondicherry Gurudwara Sahib, and other prominent community leaders from Chennai and Tamil Nadu were present to facilitate the program.
Members of the Sikh Sangat maintained that the Lieutenant Governor’s participation was a meaningful gesture of support for the community within the Union Territory. Authorities asserted that such engagements are vital for fostering communal harmony and recognizing the diverse contributions of all citizens to the country’s growth.
