Chandigarh, 8 January 2025: The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has prioritized public safety with the installation of CCTV cameras across the state. The initiative, focused especially on border areas, is part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure a secure environment for citizens.
According to official data, over Rs 19 crore has been allocated for the project, with 2,127 cameras already installed at 585 locations in border regions. The government aims to enhance surveillance and prevent incidents by closely monitoring suspicious activities through these cameras.
A centralized control room has been set up to operate the network, with a dedicated team overseeing live feeds from key locations. “The cameras will help in timely tracing of incidents and monitoring suspects, making it easier for the police to act swiftly,” stated a government official.
The initiative has garnered public appreciation, as it promises to significantly curb crime and improve safety across Punjab.
