New Delhi, 14 February 2025: YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, known as “BeerBiceps,” has petitioned the Supreme Court for relief from multiple FIRs filed across states over remarks made during a now-deleted YouTube reality show, India’s Got Latent.
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” Mr Allahbadia asked.
His lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, argued that the FIRs should be clubbed together. Allahbadia also sought anticipatory bail, citing summons issued by the Guwahati police, who are investigating the case.
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, before whom the petition was mentioned, declined an urgent hearing, stating that a date had already been assigned.
He advised Allahbadia’s legal team to approach the court registry for further details.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia posed an explicit question about parents and sex on the show, hosted by comedian Samay Raina. The clip sparked outrage and multiple complaints nationwide, leading to FIRs under sections related to obscenity and public morality.
A complaint filed in Guwahati resulted in cases against Allahbadia, Raina, and fellow participants Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.
A team from Assam police is in Mumbai to serve summons to Allahbadia, Raina, and others. Raina, who resides in Pune, has been directed to appear before Assam police within four days. However, he is currently in the U.S. for his shows and has sought more time.
The controversy has also reached Parliament, where Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske raised concerns over social media content, urging stricter regulations. A parliamentary panel on communications and information technology has asked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to submit a detailed report by February 17.
