CHANDIGARH/PATHANKOT, February 3: Punjab Police is enhancing surveillance in border districts with the installation of 2,300 CCTV cameras at 703 strategic locations from Pathankot to Fazilka, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday. Aimed at strengthening the second line of defence, the initiative is being implemented at a cost of ₹45 crore.

DGP Yadav was in Pathankot to inaugurate multiple police infrastructure projects, including a new Cyber Crime Police Station housed in Police Station Division-1.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the facility will enhance Punjab Police’s ability to combat cybercrimes and provide swift responses to online fraud cases.

Victims can report cybercrimes directly at the station or via the toll-free helpline 1930, he said.

Besides, Yadav inaugurated an upgraded Police Command and Control Centre, enhancing real-time surveillance across key entry and exit points in Pathankot.

As part of this effort, 344 HD CCTV cameras, including Auto Number Plate Reader (ANPR) cameras, have been deployed across the district, with an additional 357 cameras set to be installed soon.

During his visit, the DGP chaired a joint meeting with Punjab Police, the Indian Army, and the Border Security Force (BSF) at Narot Jaimal Singh Police Station, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency coordination.

He lauded the efforts of Pathankot Police in addressing drone incursions and terror threats and called for joint action to dismantle the nexus of terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers operating under the directives of Pakistan’s ISI. “Information sharing and coordinated operations are critical in tackling these threats,” he stated.

To acknowledge outstanding service, DGP Yadav presented Commendation Discs and appreciation letters to high-performing officers from Punjab Police and the BSF.

He also participated in a ‘Bada Khana’ lunch with police personnel, fostering informal interactions and reinforcing team spirit.

Later, he visited Shaheed Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost (BOP) along the Indo-Pak border to assess security measures and interact with the personnel stationed there.

The event was attended by several senior officials, including DIG Border Range Satinder Singh, DIG BSF Gurdaspur Sector Yuvraj Dubay, DC Pathankot Aditya Uppal, SSP Gurdaspur Harish Dayama, SSP Amritsar (Rural) Charanjit Singh Sohal, and Colonel Malay Baiya of the Indian Army, among others.
