Chandigarh, June 11, 2025 — In a surprise inspection carried out in Bapudham Colony on Wednesday, food safety officials seized 450 kilograms of paneer from a local shop and a nearby parked vehicle. Both the shopkeeper and the vehicle operator were issued challans under Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 for selling food items without a valid licence from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Officials said the shop was being run from house number 714/2, and the operation was conducted on the directions of the health secretary-cum-commissioner of food safety.
Paneer samples were collected from both the shop and the vehicle, while additional samples of desi ghee and curd were also taken for quality testing. “All collected samples will be sent to a certified food lab for examination, and necessary legal action will follow based on the results,” an official stated.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and buy food only from authorised vendors maintaining proper hygiene. “If anyone notices unsafe or unhygienic food being sold, they can report it to the Department of Food Safety and Standards at the Directorate of Health Services, Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16,” the department appealed.
The crackdown comes amid ongoing efforts by the administration to curb the sale of substandard food products and ensure public health safety.
