GURUGRAM, July 10 — A state-level tennis player, 21-year-old Radhika Yadav, was allegedly shot dead by her father at their residence in Sushant Lok Phase 2, Sector 57, Gurugram, on Thursday. Police have detained the father and are questioning other family members as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to police officials, Radhika was shot multiple times—reportedly over five bullets were fired—and she died on the spot. The motive for the killing remains unclear, authorities said.

“We received information and immediately dispatched a team to the house. The body has been taken into custody for post-mortem. We are speaking to the family and neighbours. The investigation is ongoing and the exact reason behind the shooting will be established soon,” said Inspector Vinod Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 56 police station.

Radhika, described by acquaintances as a promising tennis player with multiple state-level appearances, lived with her family in a gated residential colony. Locals expressed shock over the incident, calling her “disciplined, focused and full of potential.”

The police have not disclosed the father’s identity yet but confirmed that he is in custody. A case of murder has been registered, and forensic teams are examining the crime scene.

“We are looking into all possible angles, including any recent disputes in the household,” said a senior police officer, adding that the investigation would consider mental health history and domestic dynamics.

More details are expected once the post-mortem report is available and the initial statements from family members and eyewitnesses are recorded.
