CHANDIGARH, DEC 12 — Dense to very dense fog is expected to return to isolated areas of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Friday, cautioning commuters about reduced visibility during early morning and late-night hours.
The alert comes as the region recorded a slight dip in both maximum and minimum temperatures in the past 24 hours. Chandigarh’s maximum temperature dropped to 23.9°C, down 1.2°C from the previous day, while the minimum settled at 6.8°C.
Mohali reported a maximum of 22.8°C and a minimum of 8.6°C, and Panchkula logged identical daytime readings of 22.8°C with a minimum of 6.8°C. The IMD said fluctuating humidity — ranging from 95% to 47% in Chandigarh — has created favourable conditions for fog formation.
Across the wider region, Bhiwani was the warmest in Haryana at 26.2°C, while Faridkot recorded Punjab’s lowest minimum at 5.2°C. Hill stations such as Shimla continued to see typical early-winter chill.
The IMD advised motorists to exercise caution during fog hours, particularly in isolated low-visibility pockets.
