Chandigarh, Jan 22: The Aam Aadmi Party has finalized its strategy to contest all three leadership positions in the upcoming mayoral elections scheduled for January 29.
Following a high-level meeting of the party’s top leadership, the party decided to field candidates for the posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor.
While the official names have not been released to the public, party insiders confirmed that nominations are being filed this afternoon.
Potential mayoral candidates from the AAP camp include councilors Yogesh Dhingra, Jasbir Singh Ladi, Damanpreet Singh, Hardeep Singh, and Ram Chander Yadav.
The decision to fight for every seat marks a significant move for the party as it seeks to strengthen its influence within the municipal body.
The ruling BJP is also in the process of finalizing its slate of candidates through an ongoing core committee meeting.
Current contenders from the BJP include Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, Saurabh Joshi, Kanwarjit Singh Rana, and Dilip Sharma.
Meanwhile, the Congress is holding internal discussions regarding a potential alliance with AAP, though several Congress councilors have expressed opposition to such a partnership.
“Our leadership has decided that we will participate fully in this democratic process across all three posts,” a party source mentioned during the deliberation process.
