Chandigarh, March 25: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday closed a petition related to the death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, General Manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, after the state confirmed that medical examinations are being recorded. Justice Jagmohan Bansal’s bench heard submissions from the state counsel that the post-mortem in Amritsar is being conducted under full videography to preserve electronic evidence.
The legal action follows the death of Randhawa, who reportedly consumed poison two days ago. While the official’s wife, Upender Kaur, requested the videographed examination in Amritsar, his mother, Bhag Kaur, had moved the court seeking an independent medical board outside the state. She asserted that the circumstances surrounding her son’s death involved serious misconduct by high-ranking officials.
The petitioner alleged that her son was subjected to physical assault and criminal intimidation at the residence of a state minister on March 13. She maintained that the official was pressured to grant illegal tenders and was threatened by associates and hired individuals. The state counsel affirmed that the medical proceedings would be completed within the day and all visual records would be secured for the investigation.
Justice Bansal noted that the grievances regarding the transparency of the autopsy appeared to be redressed. Legal representatives for the family stated that they could not controvert the state’s assurance, leading to the disposal of the matter.
