Noida, April 14: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved an interim increase in minimum wages across all labor categories, just 24 hours after violent protests by factory workers brought industrial hubs in Noida to a standstill. Under the new structure, workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad will receive a nearly 21% hike, with the revised rates implemented retrospectively from April 1, 2026.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cleared the decision late Monday night following recommendations from a high-powered committee. The panel was established to mediate between industrial stakeholders and labor groups after demonstrations over wage disparities and rising living costs turned into clashes with security forces.

“The government has assessed all feedback and objections to arrive at a balanced and practical outcome,” an official statement affirmed. Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam stated that the revision aims to restore industrial peace while addressing the legitimate concerns of the workforce.

In the primary industrial belt of Noida and Ghaziabad, the new monthly wages for unskilled workers have been set at ₹13,690, up from the previous ₹11,313. Semi-skilled workers will now earn ₹15,059, while skilled professionals will receive ₹16,868.

Municipal Areas₹13,006₹14,306₹16,025
Other Districts₹12,356₹13,591₹15,224

The administration maintained that this is an interim measure, with a dedicated Wage Board expected to be formed next month for a permanent determination. Government officials also rejected social media rumors of a uniform ₹20,000 minimum wage, declaring such claims to be misleading.

Beyond the salary revision, the Chief Minister has issued directives to ensure that industrial units strictly adhere to labor laws. Adityanath maintained that employers must guarantee timely payments, double compensation for overtime, and consistent social security benefits. The government affirmed its commitment to worker welfare, specifically emphasizing the safety and dignity of female employees at the workplace.
