Mohali, April 20: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday extended a formal invitation to NXP Semiconductors to explore the establishment of a research and development center in Mohali. The proposal was discussed during a meeting with Maurice Geraets, Executive Director and Country Manager of the Netherlands-based technology giant, as part of Punjab’s strategy to integrate into the global semiconductor value chain.
The Chief Minister stated that Mohali is uniquely positioned to become a premier hub for electronics system design and next-generation mobility. He declared that the state is prepared to develop a specialized ecosystem at Kalkat Bhawan, modeled after Silicon Valley, to support high-tech innovation and semiconductor design.
“Mohali is considered as a potential location, leveraging the state’s strong talent pool and emerging electronics ecosystem,” Mann affirmed. He maintained that the proximity of premier institutions like IIT Ropar and ISB Mohali ensures a consistent pipeline of high-quality engineering talent for global firms.
Beyond infrastructure, the Chief Minister proposed a partnership between Startup Punjab and the NXP Startup Challenge Program. He stated that this collaboration would focus on co-developing cutting-edge solutions in areas such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Near Field Communication (NFC).
Officials noted that the state’s Industrial and Business Development Policy 2026 offers significant incentives for the semiconductor sector, including up to 125% of fixed capital investment. The Chief Minister affirmed that recent expansions at the Semi-Conductor Laboratory in Mohali, involving the Tata Group, further demonstrate the state’s readiness for large-scale technological investment.
