Chandigarh, July 13: The Punjab Government secured regulatory oversight over private educational costs following explicit legal assent from Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. The administration confirmed the formal signing of the fee regulation amendment ordinance, establishing a legal mechanism to prevent private institutions from imposing unreasonable financial hikes on local families.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann maintained that the new legal framework directly shields citizens from corporate exploitation in the classroom. “My Government will not allow education to be turned into a commercial enterprise. The AAP government is duty-bound to ensure that the common man is not unnecessarily financially burdened,” the Chief Minister asserted, adding that basic schooling must remain financially accessible across the state.
The legislative update explicitly prohibits unaided private schools from raising annual fees or associated charges by more than five percent within any single academic year. Educational institutions seeking adjustments above this threshold must secure explicit permission from state authorities beforehand. Furthermore, the framework provides direct financial restitution, empowering officials to order institutions to return any excess collections back to the affected families if the mandated limits are breached.
