New Delhi, July 13: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Union Government to present the newly framed aviation rules under the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, within a strict two-week timeline. The legal mandate forms part of an ongoing judicial review concerning erratic airline pricing and passenger welfare across domestic air travel corridors.
A division bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta ordered that the regulatory documents must be presented to the court in a sealed cover, explicitly clarifying that parliamentary tabling schedules should not delay the judicial submission. The directive follows a public interest litigation seeking structural changes within the civil aviation framework to curb unfair dynamic pricing models.
The bench issued the specific directive after evaluating the progress of the upcoming legislative framework. “We grant two weeks’ time to the respondents to place before this court in a sealed cover the rules which have been framed, irrespective of the fact whether they are placed before the Houses of Parliament,” the bench declared.
Social activist S Laxminarayanan initiated the legal action to address unpredictable fare adjustments and ancillary fees managed by commercial airlines. Representing the central administration, legal counsel stated that the necessary draft guidelines have been completed and are currently undergoing language translation before their formal presentation to the legislature.
