New Delhi, July 14: New Delhi has strongly condemned targeted violence against commercial shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz after an incident left one Indian seafarer dead and ten others injured. The Ministry of External Affairs officially lodged a firm protest by summoning the deputy chief of mission of the Iranian embassy in New Delhi on Tuesday, signaling deep diplomatic concern over the safety of international waterways.
The central government asserted that civilian infrastructure and commercial shipping must remain entirely un-targeted to protect global trade. Ministry officials declared that targeting such assets must cease immediately so that free and unimpeded navigation can be restored in accordance with international law. Government representatives maintained that the escalating hostilities between Tehran and Washington DC jeopardize peace, security, and stability across the West Asian region, calling instead for an immediate return to dialogue and diplomacy.
The violence directly affected thirty Indian nationals who were part of the forty-six total crew members distributed across two separate commercial ships, the MT Al Bahiyah and the MT Mombasa. Ministry officials affirmed that the MT Al Bahiyah carried twelve Indian nationals, resulting in one tragic death and one injury. The MT Mombasa, which sailed with eighteen Indian crew members, saw nine Indians suffer injuries, including two individuals who remain in serious condition.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased Indian national and wish speedy recovery to those injured,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated.
