New Delhi, 1 February 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Union Budget 2025-26 as a reflection of the aspirations of 140 crore Indians, calling it a “people’s Budget” that fulfills their dreams.
Presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha on the second day of the Budget session, the Budget shifts focus from merely filling the treasury to increasing people’s savings, Mr. Modi said.
“Budgets often focus on filling the treasury, [but] this Budget aims to fill people’s pockets and increase savings,” he remarked.
He noted that tax relief measures would provide significant benefits to the middle class and salaried employees. Calling the Budget a “force multiplier,” he said it would boost investment, consumption, and overall economic growth.
Addressing its impact on different sectors, Mr. Modi said announcements for farmers would bring transformative changes to the agricultural sector and rural economy.
He added that manufacturing sector reforms were aimed at making Indian products globally competitive.
He also underscored the welfare measures introduced for gig workers, stating they reaffirm the government’s commitment to ensuring dignity of labour.
