New Delhi, December 19 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of distorting his comments on Dr. BR Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha, claiming the party misrepresented his views to mislead the public after being “exposed” for its repeated disrespect toward the architect of the Constitution.
Addressing reporters, Shah said, “I condemn the Congress for twisting facts. This was done because BJP leaders highlighted how NDA governments upheld the Constitution and showed, with evidence, that the Congress has been anti-Ambedkar, anti-Constitution, and anti-reservation.”
The home minister further alleged that Congress had a history of misrepresenting statements by both him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spread confusion. “When these facts about the Congress’s actions came to light, they resorted to their old tactics to divert attention by distorting facts,” Shah remarked.
Shah also criticized the Congress for its actions during the Emergency, asserting that the party “blew to smithereens the values enshrined in the Constitution.” He added that the Congress had previously insulted leaders like VD Savarkar, exposing what he called its disregard for the nation’s constitutional values.
Responding to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s demand for his resignation, Shah dismissed it with a touch of humor. “If it makes Kharge ji happy, I can resign. But this won’t solve his problems. He has to stay in opposition for 15 more years,” Shah said.
He accused Kharge of acting under Rahul Gandhi’s influence, calling the campaign against him part of a “malicious” strategy to distort his views on Ambedkar. Shah concluded by reaffirming that his party could never insult Ambedkar or the principles he stood for.
