Amritsar, April 21: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled two interconnected narcotics syndicates involved in smuggling drugs from across the border, recovering 7.050 kg of heroin. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated on Tuesday that the operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals who were reportedly using drones to receive drug consignments from Pakistan.
The suspects, identified as residents of the Amritsar region, were allegedly acting as local handlers for a Pakistan-based smuggler. In addition to the narcotics, police teams impounded a motorcycle used for transporting the contraband. This crackdown is part of the ongoing state-wide initiative directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eliminate the drug menace in Punjab.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler, who was sending consignments via drones,” DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed. He noted that the investigation is now focused on identifying the broader network of buyers and suppliers linked to these cartels.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that the first breakthrough occurred with the arrest of Deepak Singh, which led to the recovery of over 4 kg of heroin. Subsequent interrogations revealed the involvement of four other associates—Rajinder Singh, Randeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Prince Singh—who were apprehended in follow-up raids. The CP declared that two separate FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act as police continue to trace the financial and logistical roots of the operation.
