Gurugram, April 22: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has established a firm deadline of May 15 for the completion of all vital drainage and stormwater initiatives to prevent urban flooding this year. Following a comprehensive field inspection on Monday, GMDA CEO P.C. Meena affirmed that officials must finish infrastructure upgrades before the monsoon season begins, noting that further delays will not be permitted.
The authority is currently accelerating work on high-impact projects, including the Leg-4 Master Drain and the box drain at Tau Devi Lal Stadium. These efforts aim to resolve persistent waterlogging issues in central sectors and along Medanta Road and Rajiv Chowk. Additionally, crews are working to integrate the Manesar channel with existing drainage lines to ensure a seamless discharge of rainwater across the district.
P.C. Meena stated that the completion of all stormwater drainage works before the monsoon is non-negotiable. He asserted that these interventions are critical to ensuring swift outflow and minimal disruption for residents. The CEO also met with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to expedite a new culvert on NH-48, specifically designed to address the notorious bottlenecks at Narsinghpur.
Environmental management is also being prioritized as part of the pre-monsoon strategy. During his inspection, Meena declared that illegal untreated sewage discharge at Dhankot must be diverted immediately. He ordered the installation of aerators at sewage treatment plants to maintain water quality standards. These measures are intended to ensure that only treated water is released into irrigation channels, protecting the regional ecosystem while the city prepares for heavy rainfall.
