Mohali, April 22: Residents in Punjab’s primary urban hubs are bracing for significant electricity disruptions as the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) carries out essential modernization work on the distribution network. The utility stated that major cities including Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda, and Patiala will experience outages lasting between eight and 10 hours daily. These scheduled cuts are set to continue until April 26.

The timing of the infrastructure upgrades coincides with a period of intense heat across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recently issued a yellow alert, forecasting heatwave conditions for the next three days with temperatures likely to hit 40°C. Officials noted that while the upgrades are necessary to strengthen the grid for future demand, the temporary loss of power may cause significant discomfort during the peak heat of the day.

PSPCL officials affirmed that the staggered schedule is a deliberate effort to facilitate necessary system improvements. They declared that while every effort will be made to minimize the impact on the public, the nature of the modernization tasks requires extended daytime windows to ensure worker safety and system integrity.

According to the issued schedule, Mohali and Ludhiana will see some of the longest disruptions, with power expected to be off from 10 am until early evening on several days. In Patiala and Amritsar, the timing varies daily, often spanning the late morning and afternoon hours. Bathinda’s outages will specifically impact several industrial zones on April 24, including the Dabwali Road and Mehta Road areas.
