Chandigarh, May 12: Senior military officials of India and Pakistan concluded a round of DGMO-level talks on Monday, following an earlier agreement to de-escalate tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), sources said.

The dialogue between the Directors General of Military Operations, originally scheduled for noon, was held later in the evening and marked the continuation of efforts to stabilize the situation after a telephonic exchange initiated by Pakistan’s DGMO on Saturday.

Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, the Indian DGMO, told reporters at a Sunday press conference that the Saturday call with his Pakistani counterpart had resulted in an agreement to halt firing and air intrusions from both sides, effective from 5 p.m. on May 10.

“My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hours and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side,” Lt Gen Ghai said. “We also decided to speak again on May 12 to discuss the modalities that would enable the longevity of this understanding.”

Ghai noted that the Indian side had made it clear through official channels that any recurrence of hostilities would be met with force. “The Chief of Army Staff has given full operational authority to Army Commanders to respond as required,” he said, referring to India’s posture in the event of further provocations.

The communication came in the wake of Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam last month that left 26 civilians dead. The operation targeted nine terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

While Monday’s DGMO dialogue closed without public disclosure of specific outcomes, the engagement reflected ongoing military-level coordination amid a volatile regional backdrop. Further developments are expected as both sides evaluate mechanisms to sustain stability across the border.
