Chandigarh, Jan 21: The Chandigarh Crime Branch arrested two shooters involved in the Sector 32 pharmacy firing incident following a gunfight near the Sector 39 Grain Market early Wednesday morning. The encounter occurred around 6 am when the suspects reportedly opened fire on a police team during a vehicle check, leading to a retaliatory action where both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs.

The injured shooters, identified as Rahul and Rocky, were shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 16 for treatment. A third accomplice, Preet, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, was also taken into custody by the officials.

The police team had signaled a suspicious car to stop during routine checking when the occupants attempted to flee. Officials mentioned that the team was forced to open fire in self-defence after the suspects initiated the shooting.

“The suspects attempted to evade the checkpoint and fired at the personnel, prompting a controlled response,” a senior police official directly said.

The arrests are linked to a recent attack at Sevak Pharmacy in Sector 32. During that incident, two youths on an Activa scooter fired at the shop while the owner’s son, Tanish, was at the counter. Tanish escaped unhurt and alerted his father, Jagdish, who later assisted the police with the investigation.

Forensic teams previously recovered an empty cartridge from the pharmacy, and CCTV footage helped detectives identify the shooters. Multiple units, including the Operation Cell and the Sector 34 Police Station, have been working on the case.

Officials noted that the investigation is now focused on identifying the masterminds behind the attack. They mentioned that the interrogation of the arrested trio is underway to uncover potential links to organized gangster networks.
