Amritsar, June 13: A New Zealand-based NRI woman has filed a complaint with the Amritsar police, asserting that her husband drugged her before fleeing with their five-year-old son and stealing her passport, cash, and official documents. The incident took place on June 9 at a sarai near Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh, where the family was staying during a religious visit to the holy city. Following the allegations, the Division B police station registered a criminal case against the husband, identified as Sukhdeep Singh of Wellington.

The complainant, Ramanpreet Kaur, originally from Jalandhar, stated that her husband gave her milk laced with intoxicants on the night of June 9, causing her to lose consciousness. Upon waking the next morning, she discovered that both her husband and their son, Sahibjot Singh, were missing from the room. She noted that when she reached out to her husband via WhatsApp, he claimed he was at the Darbar Sahib and promised to return, but he subsequently turned off his mobile phone and disappeared.

According to the police report, the accused vanished with the child alongside the victim’s Indian passport, approximately 2,000 New Zealand dollars, identity cards, driving licence, and bank cards. Ramanpreet Kaur maintained that she searched the prominent local shrines and later visited her in-laws’ residence near Bhogpur in Jalandhar district, which she found locked. The police have registered a case under Sections 123 and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering theft and causing hurt by poison. Division B Station House Officer Baljinder Singh declared that an investigation is underway, and authorities are initiating the process to issue a Lookout Circular against Sukhdeep Singh to prevent him from leaving the country.
