Chandigarh, 1 February 2025: A 40-year-old man, identified as Jiya-Ul-Haq, was found murdered with his throat slit near the road connecting Khuda Lahora Bridge to Nada Bridge on Friday morning.
His father, Mangru, identified the body, which was discovered barefoot in a field owned by a local resident. Police noted that his right hand was clutching a sharp weapon, and a lighter was found nearby.
Jiya-Ul-Haq was unmarried and reportedly addicted to alcohol and tobacco. He had worked as a mechanic at the Sector-38 Motor Market but had been unemployed for several years.
Dhannawati, a resident of a nearby farmhouse, told police that she and her son, Anil, found the body after hearing dogs barking. “My son was about to leave for his milk deliveries when we saw the body in the field. We immediately informed the farmhouse owner, and Anil called the police,” she said.
She also mentioned that the area was known for drug abuse, with people often coming there to inject drugs.
The victim’s brother-in-law, Gulfam, told police that a large knife found at the scene had recently gone missing from Jiya-Ul-Haq’s house.
The family suspects foul play, pointing out that he usually left home on his bicycle, but both his bicycle and slippers remained at home.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to trace his movements and determine if he was carrying a weapon when he left.
Investigators have questioned multiple suspects, and a post-mortem examination scheduled for Saturday is expected to clarify the cause of death and extent of injuries.
