Bergamo, April 19: Two Indian men were shot and killed in the Italian town of Covo, located in Bergamo province, late Friday night. The victims, identified as 48-year-old Raginder Singh and 48-year-old Gurmit Singh, were attacked as they departed a warehouse serving as a temporary place of worship following a Baisakhi festival gathering.

The shooting took place just before midnight in a square situated in an industrial area outside the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. According to reports from Italian media, the assailant fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Investigators recovered approximately 10 shell casings from the area, leading local authorities to consider the hypothesis of a “coldly planned execution” rather than a spontaneous altercation.

Authorities have noted that initial findings do not suggest a brawl preceded the violence. One witness stated that the shooter appeared to be an Indian national who was known to frequent the same house of worship. During the incident, a third individual was reportedly grazed by a bullet but survived.

Raginder Singh was a resident of Covo, while Gurmit Singh had traveled from the nearby town of Agnadello to participate in the religious event. The community had planned further Baisakhi celebrations for Saturday, which were expected to include local institutional representatives. Police in Treviglio are currently leading the search for the suspect and investigating the motive behind the targeted shooting.
